First off: I apologise. There could literally only be one cover for this playlist, Fleetwood Mac's Mirage. But there was no real way I could figure to Photoshop it (I really did try! everyone's looking wrong!!!) and time was a-ticking as regards approaching an actual artist, so this was the only recourse left to me. Mea culpa. The back-cover front-facing portraits were by contrast much easier & as such I will not have to inflict any horrors on Kath and Ory. I tried v hard to find the type but it may have been custom, so I attempted a poor substitute. Crevasses seemed to me at the time a fair enough opposite of mirages. I wish they'd all fallen into one on the Southern Journey it'd have saved me much emotional destruction

This playlist originated from a tweet that I saw recently; I can't find it anymore, but it was something responding some usual puritan stuff, this time about Fleetwood Mac and I think adultery?? Anyway the tweet had the energy of 'you MORALISE Fleetwood Mac? You MORALISE the band that wrote Rumours? Oh, jail for bummer! Jail for bummer for 1000 years!' And suddenly I realised that I would say the same to anyone who tried to point out that my beloved Discovery polycule was, er, toxic.
To explain the polycule would take all day, so I defer to Allegra's already extant and excellent post for the general vibes, and include the following:
- bill and shackles were Friends First
- and i assume con was already in love with bill as was everyone on every expedition
- but shackles and con were Also Flirting (i don't care that i'm delulu this is my playlist why ELSE would he have brought him on the sledging journey)
- no good terrible very bad slow motion breakup where no one was really at fault (shackles less so than the other two though see i can admit stuff) they just refused to talk to each other

- shackles back, everyone starts gettin real catty. Bilson in particular sends The worst breakup letter i've ever read (don't be mistaken i love him more for this)

Anyway the dynamic is so fucked up and delicious and I constantly rotate them in my mind as I do no one else. In particular I am a shacklecon truther and you will never be able to shut me up about this but I think as a trio they are so open for interpretation and misinterpretation and being generally absolutely fucking awful to each other which is a dying art!! One that only fleetwood mac can solve!! thusly:

After all the original blowout I do think both shackles and con found the right people in the end (hence my shacklewild and billcon playlists lmfao) and I guess this isn't forgiveness but summin else. shrugs

By all rights some other angry song should be here in place of this. But you know me. I am a sentimental maudlin bitch and I just wanted to close with one song about before shit went down. Also I was genuinely emotionally fragile about Christine McVie which was another reason why this playlist was born & I feel like I needed to give something to that.
IT'S STILL SAD, because you're thinking about it in context of the love lost after, but once they were friends, they were friends.

I originally had Albatross as the opening track before deciding that it should be polycule-era FM only. You can imagine the wealth of back catalogue I had the pick of here, and I actively tried to decrease the Rumours rep, taking out Never Going Back Again and Second Hand News and and.
I've literally just (like, minutes before posting) made the executive decision that The Chain should be here instead of Landslide and am FRANTICALLY scrambling to redo the only back cover I didn't save :crylaugh: I think I was just being precious about my favourite song and Landslide is actually too reconciliatory for them oops. However I will say it's a good ConQuest song
PS I think Oh Daddy is the unhinged letters both shackles and con were writing bill
